Tichasiyana Wonder MaponderaNON-EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN

Mr. Tichasiyana Wonder Mapondera

Mr Mapondera brings a wealth of experience in teaching, training, strategic innovative business management and leadership from various organisations. He was a lecturer and Head of Agricultural Education Department at Belvedere Technical Teachers College in Harare from 1983 to May 1990. From June 1990 to September 1993 he was a Senior Training Officer at the Agricultural and Rural Development Authority where he ran several management courses to middle and senior managers. From December 1994 to June 2000 he was with the Standards Association of Zimbabwe as a Divisional Manager and subsequently Administration Manager. He briefly taught at the Zimbabwe Open University before joining the Scientific & Industrial Research and Development Centre in December 2000 as a Research Scientist in the Biotechnology Research Institute and rose to the position of a Director in the Farming Operations Department. From 2008 to date he is the Executive Director of the Zimbabwe Farmers Development Trust.

He holds, among other qualifications, a Masters Degree in Management (Cranfield University, U.K.), Bachelor of Education degree (UZ), Diploma in Marketing Management (Harare Polytechnic), Postgraduate Diploma in Agricultural Education (University of Reading, U.K.), Diploma in Standardisation and Management Techniques (Swedish Standards Institution, Stockholm) and is a qualified Lead Auditor of Quality Management Systems (British Standards Institution). He is a full member of the Institute of Marketing Management (IMM) and the Zimbabwe Quality Association (ZQA).

Vurayai GuvakuvaNON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Mr Vurayai Guvakuva

Mr. Guvakuva, a holder of a Masters in Business Administration and Post Graduate Diploma in
Business Management both from Nottingham Trent University, Bachelor of Technology Accountancy
Hons degree from University of Zimbabwe, Chartered Secretary and Administrator (CIS)
and Chartered Management Accountant (CIMA) brings to the Champions board a wealth of
experience having worked for big companies at Executive management level.

Mr. Guvakuva began his working career in 1993 as an Accountant in the Ministry of Finance. He
also worked as Head Office Accountant as Industrial Development Corporation, Treasury
Accountant at Zimphos Industry, Corporate Accountant at Philips Electrical, Head Finance and
Administration at REA Unit (ZESA) and rose through the ranks to become the Chief Executive for
Rural Electrification Agency.

 

Farai ManjokotaNON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Mr Farai Manjokota

Mr. Farai Manjokota, a seasoned and vastly experienced Finance professional, began his working
career at the National Audit Office in 1993. In 1995 he joined Fidelity Life Company Limited as an
Internal Auditor. Mr. Manjokota’s career took him to ZB Financial Holdings where he served as an
Internal Auditor from1997 to 2002.

Mr. Manjokota worked as an Accountant/Finance Manager at ZB Asset Management Company
from September 2002 and was elevated to the post of Chief Financial Officer in June 2004. Mr
Manjokota was the Acting Managing director from November 2006 until his promotion to the post
of Head Retail Investments- a position he holds to date. He is a qualified Chartered Management
Accountant and Chartered Secretary.

 

Ashilly Ashton DebweNON-EXECUTIVE VICE CHAIRMAN

Mr Ashilly Ashton Debwe

Mr. Debwe Practices Law in Harare as a sole partner in the firm Debwe and Partners Legal
Practitioners. He has been in private practice since 1990.

In addition he holds a Diploma in Theology from AMFC College, Zimbabwe. He serves as board member at Mbuya Dorcas Hospital and is a council member at Zimbabwe Ezekiel Guti University.

 

 

Alice MotsiNON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Mrs Alice Motsi

Mrs Alice Motsi is the Marketing Director of Eckil Investments. Her career spans over 20 years beginning with the then Ministry of National Affairs, Employment Creation and Cooperatives as an Administration Officer, the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority as a Revenue Officer, and The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe as a Senior Exchange Control Analyst. Currently, she is studying for a Master Degree in Srategic Marketing with the University of Zimbabwe.

 

 

Nathan ChikonoManaging Director

Mr Nathan Chikono

Nathan is a career insurance and risk management expert who started his career at the National Insurance Company of Zimbabwe (NICOZ) in the 1990s as a trainee underwriter and has risen through the ranks working in different capacities in different companies in the industry. Nathan’s illustrious career in insurance and risk management has seen him assume positions as Underwriter (Nicoz), Chief Underwriter (Zimnat Insurance), Technical Manager (Solid Insurance Company), Projects Manager (Insurefin), Underwriting Manager (Diamond Insurance Company), Broking Manager (Corporate Insurance Brokers), SBU Head (NcozDiamond Insurance Company), General Manager Operations (TristarInsurance Company) and the current position of Managing Director (TristarInsurance, and currently Champions Insurance).

Nathan believes in development insurance, an emerging branch of insurance aimed at fostering national economic development through managed risk taking, and value preservation, using insurance and risk management techniques. Nathan spends the greatest part of his time exploring ways to alleviate poverty, and fostering community development, and to this end the insurance agency concept rolled out at Champions Insurance ensures that in every community, there are agents prospering from contract work from Champions Insurance as local community sales consultants. The company aims to develop at least 1, 000 sales agents by 31 December 2016.

Nathan is a sustainability enthusiast and to this end he has championed the “Going Green Campaign” aimed at promoting sustainable development of Zimbabwean schools by sponsoring the Champions Insurance Going Green Competition which recognises schools that mainstream sustainable development practices in schools. Nathan believes in lifelong learning, and is a holder of a BCom Risk Management Degree, Associateship and Fellowship of the Insurance Institute of South Africa, Diploma in Business Leadership, Master of Arts Degree in Leadership and Management, Master of Commerce Degree in Business Management and currently studying for a Doctor of Business Administration degree specialising in Leadership, in addition to being a Euromoney Operational Risk Management trained practitioner.
